Iran's objective in this war was never Washington's. The US went in for regime change, the nuclear programme and the missiles. Iran went in to get American bases out of the region.
Jordan: King Faisal evacuated, Muwaffaq Salti reported out of service. Kuwait and Bahrain: the Financial Times has US personnel and assets withdrawn, with CENTCOM weighing a permanent cut in Kuwait.
Qatar tells you what the Pentagon expected — Al Udeid, CENTCOM's forward headquarters and the largest US facility in the region, was mostly emptied before the war began.
Iraq is the clearest marker because it comes with a date: every remaining American soldier out by September 30, the first time in twenty-three years.
Some of this is firmer than the rest. The FT reporting is solid and the Iraq date is announced policy; the strike counts and damage figures are claims, and the case does not need them.
Iran offered Washington a negotiated withdrawal while the war was still running. The US refused, and left anyway — slower, dearer, and without the agreement it could have had.

The U.S. National Defense Strategy is public on the Defense Department's website, and it explains a great deal about the past year.
Objective one: consolidate the Western Hemisphere into a Fortress America. Greenland, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua, Honduras — the pattern is hard to miss.
Objective two: keep regional powers occupied with each other. Supply the weapons, the financing, the intelligence, and let others carry the cost of the fighting.
Instability is also profitable. It raises demand for American arms, American markets and the dollar, which makes an enormous national debt easier to finance.
Which is exactly why striking Iran ourselves inverts the plan. We took on the cost the document was written to avoid, and we spent interceptor stockpiles that take months to rebuild.
The strategy is coherent. This war is a departure from it.

South Pars and Qatar's North Field are not two gas fields. They are one reservoir, cut in two by a line drawn on the sea.
Gas underground drifts toward whoever pumps hardest. Sanctions kept Iran from pumping. Qatar now pulls roughly nine times as much out of the shared pool.
That one field pays for about 80% of the Qatari state.
Every month the war drags on, Iran's side sits frozen while Qatar quietly drains more of it.
America bombed the coast and left the offshore platforms untouched. You cannot crack Iran's half without cracking Qatar's half of the same rock — and Qatar's gas is the gas Europe leaned on after it cut off Russia.
Watch the platforms. The day anyone strikes them, this war stops being contained.

The Pentagon paid $400 million for a Govini study of its own supply chains. Follow the suppliers far enough — supplier to supplier to supplier — and you are standing in a Chinese factory.
That includes the weapons America treats as untouchable. The Tomahawk. The JDAM.
Which makes most of the flexing theater. You cannot fight your own factory.
Picture a 98-year-old loading the same 300 pounds he pressed in 1945 and assuming it will go up. That is how Uncle Sam sees himself.
You are not going to beat China. You can balance it — once you are honest about which century you are standing in.
