Yilan construction firm boss detained over unpaid labor insurance fees
A 71-year-old construction company owner in Taiwan has been detained and ordered into custody after moving more than NT$40 million out of his company while refusing to pay NT$5.18 million in overdue labor insurance fees.
- The company has capital of NT$230 million but stopped paying the labor insurance bills it owed for workers.
- After learning about the debt, the owner shifted large deposits to a third party's account and pulled out cash until the money was gone.
- Enforcement officers found the firm has almost nothing left to seize — just one hybrid car from 2022.
- The owner refused to say where that car was, telling officials he still needed it.
- A court approved holding him in custody, and authorities warned they will use travel bans and arrests against people who hide assets to dodge public debts.
Outlook: He stays in custody while officials chase the missing money, and more aggressive collection against asset-hiding debtors is likely.
