Police break up prostitution ring hidden in Ximending building
Taipei police have shut down a sex-trade operation running out of an office building in the city's busy Ximending district, arresting more than 50 people.
- Wanhua police raided a building on Hankou Street after months of gathering evidence, finding rooms used for paid sex on three floors.
- 41 sex workers and 9 male clients were taken in, along with the 39-year-old man who ran the operation and two staff.
- The business used a hotel as cover; police seized condoms and more than NT$140,000 in cash.
- Most of the women were Thai and Vietnamese nationals who entered Taiwan on tourist visas, some of which had expired.
- The clients and sex workers face public-order fines, the boss and his two staff face criminal charges, and women with expired visas are being handed to immigration authorities.
Outlook: Police say they will keep checking hotels, guesthouses, and rented apartments in the district for similar operations.
