Taiwan's foreign ministry reports 10 bullying complaints in two years
Taiwan's foreign ministry is under pressure over a string of workplace bullying complaints against senior diplomats, a bad look for a ministry trying to keep staff trust.
- Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung said the ministry has received around 10 bullying complaints during his two years in the job.
- Named complaints automatically trigger a formal investigation; anonymous ones are handled case by case.
- Opposition lawmakers listed eight separate bullying cases involving envoys posted in the US, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Boston, Geneva and elsewhere.
- Only the Geneva case, involving office head Li Kuan-te, is still open — he is accused of misusing public money, bullying staff, and trying to identify whoever reported him.
- Li has returned to Taiwan to cooperate, but his account and the complaint differ sharply, so the ministry is not saying yet whether findings will be made public.
Outlook: The Geneva investigation should wrap up within weeks, and any envoy found guilty of bullying gets recalled to headquarters.
