Taiwan exchange suspends margin trading for Chin Cherng and Kang Na Hsiung; Samsung announces record shareholder payout

Aug 21, 2026

Two Taiwanese small caps get pushed out of margin trading after weak second-quarter books, while Samsung hands shareholders the biggest payout in Korean history — bad news for the Taiwan names, very good news for Samsung holders.

  • Chin Cherng and Kang Na Hsiung lose margin trading privileges from August 24 because their book value per share fell below face value.
  • Four other names — Lealea, Chien Shing, Jing Jin and Sheng Tai — get margin trading restored after their book value recovered.
  • Samsung approved a payout worth roughly 110 trillion won, mixing cash dividends, buybacks and share cancellations.
  • The money comes from a memory chip boom: second-quarter operating profit jumped 18-fold from a year earlier, with full-year profit expected to run far higher still.
  • Samsung is also lining up an August 27 launch event for a new addition to its Galaxy S26 phone line.

Outlook: The memory chip upcycle keeps feeding Samsung's cash returns, while the Taiwan margin changes mostly signal which small caps are still repairing their balance sheets.
