Hou Yu-ih Inspects Danbei Road Project, Targeting June 2029 Opening of Main Line
New Taipei City is speeding up road construction in the Tamsui area, good news for commuters stuck in traffic on the route from Tamsui to Taipei every day.
- All four work zones of the riverside surface road on the north side of the Tamsui River (Danbei Road) are now under construction, with progress slightly ahead of schedule.
- The target for opening the main line is June of ROC year 118 (2029).
- Tamsui's population has kept growing and traffic pressure is mounting; the city government is relying on two corridors, the Tamkang Bridge and Danbei Road, to ease congestion.
- The Tamkang Bridge, which opened this May, has already drawn off about 40 percent of the traffic from the Guandu Bridge.
- Danbei Road runs 5.45 kilometres, connecting from the Danjin Road intersection in Tamsui to Dadu Road in Beitou. Work is currently under way on elevated bridge piers and ground improvement for the underpass, while pipelines along the Taipei City section are being relocated in phases.
Outlook: If construction stays on its current schedule, Tamsui can expect another major route out of the district in 2029, though traffic along the construction sections will still be affected in the near term.
