Truck crashes into parked vehicles in Taichung after suspected brake failure
A small truck lost control in Taichung's Shalu district and plowed into more than a dozen parked vehicles, damaging a wall at the home of Jenn Lann Temple chairman Yen Ching-piao — but nobody was hurt.
- A 40-year-old African man driving the truck said his brakes failed as he approached an intersection late Sunday afternoon.
- To stop the vehicle, he turned into a side street and hit a parked car and 15 scooters.
- The outer wall of Yen Ching-piao's house was also struck; his office said the house itself was untouched.
- Police tested the driver and found no alcohol or drugs involved.
Outlook: Contractors will check whether the damaged wall is still structurally safe, and police will verify the brake-failure claim.
