Taipei Tech joins Taiwan-Germany semiconductor training program
Taiwan is expanding a chip-training partnership with Germany, good news for both TSMC's German expansion and German engineering students.
- National Taipei University of Technology signed on with Dresden University of Technology, becoming the fourth Taiwanese school in the program.
- German students spend six months taking chip courses in Taiwan plus hands-on training at TSMC in Taichung.
- The number of German students coming each year is set to rise from about 70 to 100.
- The program exists because TSMC is building a plant in Dresden and Germany needs trained chip workers fast.
- Germany's research ministry and the state of Saxony now split the funding, covering tuition plus a monthly stipend and travel money.
Outlook: A fifth Taiwanese university, National Cheng Kung, joins in spring 2027 as Germany races to build up its own chip workforce.
