Lienchiang County magistrate Wang Chung-ming registers for re-election
Taiwan's local election season formally opened, with the sitting Kuomintang magistrate of Lienchiang County filing his papers on day one — a routine but telling start for the outlying Matsu islands.
- Wang Chung-ming, the KMT magistrate of Lienchiang County, registered his re-election bid on the first morning of candidate sign-ups, joined by his wife Chen Shun-ngo.
- He is running on a "five-star navigation, happy Matsu" theme, promising to train local talent, hand power to a younger generation, and push a "smart island" plan.
- Independent challenger Tsao Erh-yuan plans to register in two days and lay out his platform then.
- Wang was the only magistrate candidate signed up on day one, and no council candidates had registered at all.
Outlook: Registration runs through early September ahead of the November 28 island-wide local vote, so the real shape of the Matsu race will only be clear once the challengers file.
