A 12-year Maui police officer has been arrested and charged with multiple sexual assault counts, a serious blow to public trust in the department.

• Devin Schoener, 49, faces six counts of second- and third-degree sexual assault.
• The Kahului-based officer was arrested and charged this week.
• He was also arrested in May of last year on a first-degree sexual assault charge.
• The repeat arrests raise questions about how the department handled the earlier case.

Outlook: The case moves to court, and the department is likely to face pressure over the officer's status and its internal review.
