Taiwan poll: Lai Ching-te's approval and trust ratings tick up in August
Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te gained ground in the latest monthly My-Formosa poll, while both opposition parties lost support sharply — good news for the ruling DPP, bad for the KMT and TPP.
- Satisfaction with Lai rose to 46.4%, and the share of people unhappy with him fell by 3.5 points.
- Trust in Lai also climbed, to 47%, with distrust falling.
- Premier Cho Jung-tai slipped slightly, and more people are unhappy with him than happy.
- The Legislative Yuan is the big loser: only a quarter of people are satisfied, and over 60% are not.
- Favorability for the opposition KMT dropped 9 points and the TPP dropped 6, while the DPP held steady.
Outlook: If the opposition keeps sliding and public anger at the legislature deepens, Lai's position looks steadier heading into the autumn political season.
