Huang Kuo-chang leads joint registration of TPP's Changhua team; Lai Yin-chu will not run for county magistrate

The Taiwan People's Party is placing the focus of its 2026 local election campaign at the councillor level and giving up on contesting the Changhua County magistracy, leaving one fewer rival for the other magistrate candidates.

  • Lai Yin-chu, deputy director of the TPP's Changhua County branch, has decided not to register as a candidate for county magistrate, closing the book on the magistrate option floated earlier at the local level.
  • Huang Kuo-chang is concentrating resources on the councillor and township/city representative races, setting a goal of a "home run" in Changhua.
  • The TPP is currently not declaring support for any candidate for Changhua County magistrate, and says cooperation can be discussed later if needed.
  • Changhua is the city or county where the TPP has nominated the most candidates and put together its most complete line-up this time around.
  • With blue-white cooperation having broken down in the Zhubei mayoral race, the TPP stresses that this does not affect other constituencies, and that Changhua remains open to cooperation with the Kuomintang.

Outlook: The TPP will next put its energy into maximising its councillor seats in Changhua, while blue-white cooperation at the magistrate level will depend on whether a deal can be struck before the election.
