European Parliament backs Taiwan's response to information manipulation; Taiwan pledges to defend international order
The European Parliament passed a resolution praising Taiwan's track record against Chinese hybrid attacks and foreign disinformation, a diplomatic win for Taipei and a sign of closer EU–Taiwan security ties.
- The resolution on hybrid warfare says Taiwan has built deep experience countering China's hybrid attacks and foreign information manipulation and interference.
- It credits Taiwan's push for whole-of-society resilience, including a national defense resilience committee, digital resilience networks, and civilian preparedness drives.
- It urges the EU to hold regular security talks with Taiwan on countering disinformation and cognitive warfare, protecting critical infrastructure and undersea cables, and building societal resilience.
- It also calls for more EU–Taiwan trade and industrial cooperation in semiconductors, 5G/6G telecom gear, drones, and dual-use goods.
- This is the second Taiwan-friendly resolution in two days, following one on the findings of the European Democracy Shield committee; Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung welcomed both.
Outlook: Taiwan says it will keep deepening cooperation with the EU and like-minded partners against authoritarian hybrid threats, so expect more formal EU–Taiwan security and tech exchanges ahead.
