Honolulu Police Department joins 30×30 pledge to boost female recruits
The Honolulu Police Department has signed the nationwide 30×30 pledge to bring more women into policing, a positive step for women seeking law enforcement careers in Hawaii.
- HPD is the first county police department in Hawaii to join the initiative.
- The goal is to have women make up at least 30% of sworn officers by 2030.
- Women currently make up 14% of HPD's sworn officers.
- Agencies that sign on review their recruitment, hiring, retention, and promotion practices to find and fix barriers for women.
- The pledge includes police agencies across the U.S. and Canada.
Outlook: HPD will now have to more than double its share of female officers within four years, so expect changes to how it recruits and promotes.
