Kaiser Permanente expands Maui care with new Wailuku surgery site and permanent Lahaina clinic

Sep 21, 2026

Kaiser Permanente is expanding its Maui operations with a new surgical center and a permanent replacement for its wildfire-destroyed Lahaina clinic, good news for Maui residents who currently have to fly off-island for procedures.

  • Kaiser bought property next to its Wailuku medical office and plans to add outpatient surgery there so members can get procedures on Maui instead of flying to Oahu.
  • The company has found a permanent site for its Lahaina clinic, near the old location that was lost in the 2023 wildfires, after making West Maui its top rebuilding priority.
  • Kaiser is the largest medical group in Hawaii and has been on Maui since 1969, which it credits for winning local "Best of Maui" awards in health insurance, pain treatment, podiatry, and urgent care.
  • A new mother-newborn center bundles pediatric, OB, lactation, and postpartum checks into a single visit shortly after birth.
  • Kaiser is also running programs to expose Maui kids to healthcare careers like MRI tech and cardiac sonography to build a local workforce.

Outlook: Both the Wailuku surgical expansion and the Lahaina clinic rebuild are in early stages, so West Maui residents will wait a while longer before either opens.
