Kauai arrivals down

Sep 22, 2026

Kauai is still getting only a third of its usual daily visitors, a serious hit to the island's economy.

  • The last near-normal day was September 3rd; arrivals have been stuck in the hundreds since the 9th.
  • Recent days ran from about 440 on Monday to 700 over the weekend, far below the usual 2,800.
  • Kauai is down 200,000 arrivals compared with September last year.
  • Oil is easing, with U.S. crude near $95 a barrel, helped by Trump signaling he would meet Iranian leaders at the U.N.
  • Saudi Arabia also sent seven supertankers carrying 14 million barrels through the Strait of Hormuz, adding supply for big Asian buyers like India, China, and Japan.

Outlook: Kauai's tourism businesses face more lean weeks unless arrivals recover soon, while cheaper oil offers some relief on travel and fuel costs.
