Palau's vice president makes fourth visit to Taiwan this year
Taiwan and Palau are tightening their ties on health, disaster response and climate work — a modest but steady diplomatic win for Taipei, which has few formal allies left.
- Palau's vice president and health minister, Raynold Oilouch, is in Taipei for the opening of a world disaster management gathering — his fourth trip to Taiwan this year.
- Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung thanked Palau for helping Taiwan take part in events around the Pacific Islands Forum summit, where Beijing usually works to shut Taiwan out.
- Taiwan is backing projects in Palau including a plan to relocate the country's national hospital, and says it will pull in private money and other friendly governments to help.
- Palau wants help with drought, disaster preparation and climate resilience, and has spoken up for Taiwan at the World Health Assembly.
Outlook: Expect more Taiwan-funded health and disaster projects in Palau as Taipei leans on its remaining Pacific allies to stay visible in international forums.
