A 91-year-old man on a bicycle was killed on Kauai after an SUV struck him, a grim reminder of how dangerous local roads can be for riders.

• The crash happened in Kekaha around seven in the morning.
• A 62-year-old woman driving east on Elepaio Road turned left onto Alai Road and hit the rider, who was heading west.
• The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.
• Police are still investigating how the turn led to the collision.

Outlook: The investigation continues, and the case may renew calls for safer road design and helmet use on Kauai.
