Drivers on Kauai face a full day of detours this Sunday as the Mauka Wailua Bridge shuts down for repair work.

• The bridge will be closed all day Sunday, from early morning to early evening.
• Traffic in both directions gets routed onto the Mayor Bryan Baptiste Memorial Bridge instead.
• Only one lane will be open each way on the detour route, so backups are likely.
• Striping work on the Wailua Bridge has been pushed back, so more disruption is still to come.

Outlook: Expect slow going through the Wailua corridor Sunday, with the delayed striping work likely to bring another round of closures later.
