Meet the mothers of Hawaii photography
A Hawaii photographer is turning portraits of local mothers into a magazine and a public gallery show, a feel-good moment for families on the islands.
- Esther Patterson of Captured Imagery runs the Empowered Mama Portrait Experience, a full studio photoshoot with hair, makeup and wardrobe.
- This year's edition features 42 Hawaii mothers, each with her own story told in an accompanying magazine.
- The idea grew out of becoming a mother herself to twins, now three, and wanting to honor how motherhood changes a woman's identity.
- A gallery exhibition on October 2nd will display the portraits and launch Volume 3, with the 42 mothers as guests of honor.
- General admission tickets are open to the public, and mothers at any stage can sign up to be featured in the next volume.
Outlook: The October show doubles as the recruiting point for next year's group, so expect Volume 3 to fill out in the weeks after.
