Huang Kuo-chang campaigns in Hualien, appearing twice alongside KMT county magistrate candidate
Taiwan People's Party chairman Huang Kuo-chang travelled to Hualien to stump for his party's candidates and appeared twice at the same events as Yu Shu-chen, the Kuomintang's candidate for county magistrate, reigniting talk of a "blue-white alliance" and sending a positive signal for grassroots cooperation between the two parties.
- Huang ran into Yu Shu-chen while canvassing at a market in the morning, and Yu made a point of attending an afternoon community gathering to pay her respects.
- Asked whether this was a Hualien version of the "blue-white alliance," Huang did not say so explicitly, noting only that a family activity over the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday need not be overly politicised.
- He also said he hoped the TPP's Tai Yu-wen would be elected mayor of Hualien City and Yu Shu-chen elected county magistrate, so that the city and county could work together.
- The TPP has not fielded a candidate for county magistrate in Hualien, and Yu Shu-chen said she is willing to cooperate across party lines as long as it benefits the people of Hualien.
- The collapse of blue-white cooperation in Zhubei has not spread, Huang said, adding that communication with other KMT candidates has gone smoothly and that cooperation in New Taipei has been very pleasant.
Outlook: Cooperation between the two parties at the local level looks set to continue under discussion, with Huang due next in Yilan to campaign for the party's candidate there.
